This asana is a calming yoga pose that can help balance Vata dosha by grounding and calming the mind.
Steps:
Start in Tadasana (Mountain Pose) with your feet hip-width apart, toes pointing forward, and arms by your sides.
As you inhale, lengthen your spine and lift your chest slightly to create space in your torso.
As you exhale, hinge at your hips and slowly fold forward from your waist. Keep your spine long as you come into the forward bend.
Place your hands on the floor next to your feet. If you can’t reach the floor, you can place your hands on yoga blocks or your shins.
If you feel any strain in your lower back or hamstrings, bend your knees slightly to ease the stretch.
Let your head hang heavy, releasing any tension in your neck and shoulders. You can gently nod your head ‘yes’ and shake it ‘no’ to release further tension.
Take slow, deep breaths in the pose, allowing your breath to flow smoothly and deeply. Feel the expansion of your ribcage with each inhale and the release of tension with each exhale.
Hold the asana for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or longer if comfortable. Allow yourself to relax and surrender to the pose.
To come out of Uttanasana, bend your knees slightly and place your hands on your hips. Inhale and slowly rise back up to standing, keeping your spine long.
Once you're back in Tadasana, take a moment to observe how you feel. Notice any changes in your body, breath, or mind.
