Awards rarely tell the whole story. But sometimes they capture a moment when an industry begins to look at itself differently.

That was the case at the Indian Salon & Wellness Awards 2015, where Kairali – The Ayurvedic Healing Village was recognised as Best Destination Spa. The honour came after a detailed evaluation process that included independent screening, assessment by an expert jury, and unannounced visits to shortlisted properties.

For Kairali, the recognition was significant not simply because it was an award, but because of what it represented. At a time when destination spas in India were increasingly defined by luxury hospitality, an Ayurveda-first institution built around physician-led care had been judged alongside some of the country’s most established names in wellness.

The award was presented during the Indian Salon & Wellness Congress, organised by Franchise India and WellnessIndia.com. The event brought together leaders from across the wellness sector to discuss emerging trends, innovation, and the future of health tourism. Among the speakers was Gita Ramesh, Joint Managing Director of Kairali Ayurvedic Group, who participated in discussions on the evolving role of Ayurveda within India’s wellness industry.

Recognition of this kind matters because it reflects more than guest satisfaction. It acknowledges consistency, professional standards, and the ability to deliver a meaningful wellness experience over time.

For Kairali, the award marked an important milestone in a much longer journey. In the years that followed, the group would go on to receive further national and international recognition. Yet this early honour remains notable because it reflected a growing acceptance of Ayurveda—not simply as a traditional system of medicine, but as a credible foundation for destination wellness.

The industry’s recognition in 2015 was, in many ways, recognition of a broader shift: that authentic Ayurvedic care had an important place in the future of wellness tourism.
