Alternative Medicine

Lifestyles of people, which allow for little or no workouts
coupled with bad diets, result in problems related to obesity. This
isn?t rocket science but what compounds the issue is the fact that both
the issues result in guilt.

But there are ways to fight obesity with some help from Lord Dhanvantari (the Lord of Ayurveda and an incarnation of Lord Krishna)?s blessings. Ayurveda or the knowledge for long life in Vedas is no more just a Hindu system of traditional medicines native to India but a full-fledged alternative medical stream which along with a few home remedies can help cure obesity.

Ayurveda has the capability to treat obesity but Ayurvedic experts lay a lot of stress on both aahar and vihar that is diet and exercise. Focusing on diet along with a certain medication or treatment, one can achieve desired results. But what matters the most is the balance of kapha, pitta and vata.

The way to treat this disease (of obesity) is to find its cause. ?A major reason of weight gain is our unruly diet system coupled with more mental work than physical labour,? says ayurveda expert, Dr. Satya Prakash and suggests use of honey and ashwagandha. ?Add one teaspoon of honey, half teaspoon of black pepper powder and two teaspoons of lemon juice in a glass of lukewarm water. Consuming this on an empty stomach in the mornings gives instant results.

Also, ashwagandha is a very effective herb to treat obesity. When suffering from thyroid, ashwagandha powder can be added to water or milk and taken twice a day on empty stomach in the morning and just before dinner in evening to cure obesity.?
Along with this, one must add a lot of green leafy vegetables to one?s diet and take fresh juices instead of packaged ones.

?Aloe vera juice can be made at home by cutting and scooping out the gel from an aloe vera leaf and adding one to two tablespoons of it in water. This solution consumed once a day will not just control your body weight but also make your skin glow,? shares Sujata Kadian, Ayurveda expert at Kairali.

She also suggests the panchkarma treatments in Ayurveda as a solution to being overweight. ?Udwarthanam powder (which constitutes yava, kol and kullat) massage, Lekhanavati and Virechanam treatments also help in curing obesity. Apart from these, anybody can consume three tablets of Lipidex capsules, thrice a day to solve the problem of being overweight.

Triphala (a herbal combination of amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki) and guggul can also be used to treat obesity.? She strictly refuses the use of any canned juices or cold drinks as they are have major calorie content and as the weight increases in an individual?s body, one often suffers from constipation.

?Include gooseberry (amla) in your diet and also the intake of water to avoid constipation,? suggests Dr S Dhanvantari and shares, ?Boil 10 grams coarsely ground chirayta (a herb) in 250 grams of water till it reduces to 50 grams and then seive and drink it to control fat in your body.?

All these treatments are decided as per the body constitution of an individual which varies from one to another. But what will accelerate the positive effects of these treatments is a 30 to 60 minute of physical workout even if it is brisk walking.
