Cure Skin Diseases
with Ayurveda
Any disease or irritation involving the skin can be termed
as skin disease. The range of skin
diseases is huge and some are life threatening and some can be treated very
well by life style changes and medications.
Dry Skin
Dry skin is a very common skin condition
that causes patchy, flaky and itchy skin and is more common in colder and drier
climate. While dry skin can effect anyone at any point of timeolder people
are more prone to dry skin as their natural skin oils and lubricants diminish
with age. Body parts like the hands,
arms, lower legs and feet are always more effected by dry skin. Dry skin is
also known as xeroderma or xerosis.
Normal dry skin problem can be
easily taken care at home with the help of various oils and moisturizers but
severe long term dry skin can cause complications
like rashes, eczema, and bacterial infections and needs expert medical
guidance.
Dermatitis is the medical term
for extremely dry skin. The four types of dermatitis are:
Allergic dermatitis is when the skin gets dry due to some allergic
reaction to something that does not suit your system. Also known as eczema ,
this can cause very itchy and scaly skin.
Atopic
dermatitis is generally hereditary and is caused due to overall health,
age, genetics and family history.
Contact dermatitis is the result of sudden or long exposure to irritating chemical agent. In this case the
skin can become inflamed suddenly and get dry and itchy.
Seborrheic dermatitis occurs when your skin produces too much OIL.
It results in a red and scaly rash, usually on the scalp. This type of
dermatitis is common in infants.
Other Causes of dry skin include factors like over washing the skin with harsh
soaps, low humidity, cold temperatures, lack of water in the body , overuse of
chemical sanitizers, medications for medical conditions like high blood
pressure and cholesterol-lowering drugs . Deficiency of certain vitamins like
Vitamin A and D can also cause skin dryness.
Wrinkles
Wrinkles are creases in the skin. As age sets in weall get wrinkles that is the way of nature. But there are
many factors that may speed up the wrinkles and they start to appear at an early
stage.
Frequent exposure to sunlight
results in early skin wrinkles. Exposure to cigarette smoke and stress can also
make the skin wrinkle soon.
Factors that promote wrinkling
include eating habits, smoking, skin type, heredity, type of dress one wears (this determines how much skin
is exposed to sun), and occupational and recreational sun exposure over the
course of many years.
It is easy to treat the early
onset of wrinkles by taking few easy steps. It is best to avoid direct exposure
to sun as much as possible. Make sure that you apply sun screen lotions and
cover up the exposed skin when out in the sun. Stop smoking and built up a
stress free healthy lifestyle. Drinking plenty of water helps to keep the skin
moisturised, dry skin tends to get more wrinkles.
Acne
Acne is the most common skin
condition suffered by many. Acne is a skin condition that happens when the hair
follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Acne usually appears on
the face, neck, chest and back of the
body. Anyone can get acne, but it is common in both male and female during
puberty and teenage. Though not a very
serious skin condition but severe and prolonged
acne can cause scars.
The three main factors that
contributes to acne are overproduction of skin oil (sebum), too much shedding
of dead skin that results in irritation of the hair follicles of your skin and
bacteria build-up.
The cause of acne is not fully
understood. Yet the few common factors that can cause acne are- hormonal
changes, certain medications, bacteria build up in the skin and diet. Though stress can aggravate acne, it
does not really cause acne.
Severe and protracted acne can cause emotional distress and also can lead to scarring of the skin. The
good news is that there are treatments available. Ayurveda offers most
effective and beneficial acne treatments that has no side effects and leaves
the skin glowing and healthy.
The earlier you start the treatment
lesser are the chances of lasting
physical and emotional damage.
Eczema
Eczema is a skin condition where
one gets red itchy and inflamed patches in
the skin. It is also known as atopic dermatitis. Eczema can occur at any point
of time in life but is more common in
babies and young children. In infants it occurs mainly in the face, and in teenagers and young
adults in inside of the elbows , inside
of knees and fingers. It is generally caused due top an overactive immune
system.
The exact cause of eczema is yet
to be known but usually eczema runs in the families- it is genetic. It is not
an allergic reaction but people who have asthma
and are allergic are more prone to eczema.
People who live in dry climates
and in cities where there is more pollution, smoke and pollen are more likely to develop atopic dermatitis.
Stress and other emotional factors do not cause eczema, but, they can make the
condition worse.certain foods such as nuts and dairy can trigger the symptoms.
Women can experience aggravated eczema symptoms when their hormone levels are
changing, for example during pregnancy and at certain points in their menstrual
cycle.
Ayurveda and Skin Disease
Modern skin treatments mostly rest on external applications of creams. They
may help symptoms vanish temporarily but they never reach the deeper layers of
the skin.
Ayurveda believes that all the
skin diseases are generally very deep rooted and are linked somehow to our
lifestyle and diet. Removing the root cause is the main line of treatment in
Ayurveda.
According to Ayurveda dry skin is
caused by vata dosha. When vata dosha escalates in body it reduces kapha and makes skin dry and wrinkled
Ayurveda offers great and very
effective treatment for acne where the root cause of acne is treated so that it
does not come back late. Ayurveda can permanently cure this offensive
affliction.
In Ayurveda eczema is termed as ‘ Vicharchika’. Ayurveda believes that
eczema is triggered due to the vitiation of the three doshas – vata, pitta and kapha.
