Get Relief for Heart Problems with Ayurveda
Heart disease is a broad term used to describe a range of diseases that affect your heart. The various diseases that fall under the umbrella of heart disease include diseases of the heart blood vessels, such as coronary artery disease; heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias); heart infections; and heart defects that many are born with (congenital heart defects).
The term “heart disease” is often used interchangeably with “cardiovascular disease.” Cardiovascular disease generally refers to conditions that involve narrowed or blocked blood vessels that can lead to a heart attack, chest pain (angina) or stroke. Other heart conditions, such as infections and conditions that affect your heart’s muscle, valves or beating rhythm, also are considered forms of heart disease.
Ayurveda believes that most of the forms of heart disease can be prevented or treated just with healthy lifestyle choices.
Causes of Heart Ailments
Coronary heart diseases is one of the leading cause of deaths among many men and women and is caused by the buildup of plaque in the arteries to the heart. This may also be called hardening of the arteries. Fatty material and other substances form a plaque build-up on the walls of your coronary arteries, this buildup causes the arteries to get narrow and since the coronary arteries bring blood and oxygen to your heart the blood flow can slow down or stop.
A risk factor for heart disease is something that increases your chance of getting it. You cannot change some risk factors for heart disease, but others you can change.
The risk factors for heart disease that you CANNOT change are:
Your age: The risk of heart disease increases with age.
Your genes: If your parents or other close relatives had heart disease, you are at higher risk.
Your gender: Men have a higher risk of getting heart disease than women who are still getting their menstrual period. After menopause, the risk for women is closer to the risk for men. See: Heart disease and women
Things increase the chances of for heart disease:
Diabetes is a strong risk factor for heart disease.
High blood pressure increases your risks of heart disease and heart failure.
Smokers have a much higher risk of heart disease.
Chronic kidney disease can increase your risk.
Substance abuse (such as cocaine).
Not getting enough exercise , sedentary lifestyle and feeling depressed or having excess stress are other risk factors.
Extra cholesterol in the blood builds up inside the walls of your heart’s arteries (blood vessels).
People with narrowed arteries in another part of the body (examples are stroke and poor blood flow to the legs) are more likely to have heart disease.
Symptoms may be very noticeable, but sometimes you may not know at all and not have any symptoms.
Some common symptoms to watch out for are
Chest pain or discomfort (angina) is the most common symptom. You feel this pain when the heart is not getting enough blood or oxygen. How bad the pain is varies from person to person.
