Thousands of people are dying every day around the world from infections related to communicable diseases.it has been observed that weak immune system are the main pathway for attacking infections, therefore maintaining hygiene is considered to be the most important protective and precautionary measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent infections associated with health care. Weak immune systems and lack of hygiene practices have contributed to many outbreaks for communicable diseases such as Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been spreading worldwide. COVID-19, a recent outbreak of 2020 is a contagious respiratory disease that was first detected in China and the number of cases is continuing to increase globally. With the increase in the positive cases, people are trying all sorts of precautionary and protective measures to fight with this deadly virus. Strong and healthy immune system might help fight against the contagious diseases. So leading a healthy life is not that tough but it requires dedication, commitment, and effort on a daily basis. Any time can be considered a good time to think about strengthening your immunity. The main ingredients required to change your daily activities in a holistic living world are physical exercise, sound sleep and changes in the dietary practices such as adopting a Veda diet. Including healthy food into your diet such as Immunity boosters and regular exercise can keep you fit, active and healthy. Positive immune response is essential to stay healthy. Ayurveda, 5000-year-old science deals with the natural way of a healthy life. Maintaining a balance of these forces assures one of a prolonged and healthy existence. Ayurveda Experts or practitioners have stressed that some of the medicinal herbs such as Neem, Giloy, Shilajeet are considered to help improve the immune system and fight against the deadly virus. Consuming Neem, Giloy juice, Tulsi, Turmeric and other herbs and fruits helps to boost your immunity and keeps your mind healthy. As per Ayurveda, an efficacious daily routine and adopting healthy habits such as Dinacharya or Ritucharya should be maintained that further helps stimulate the immune system and cleanses the body from impurities and contaminants. It is important to consume certain immune boosting foods also called as superfoods to keep you stray, fit, active and healthy. Several foods or home remedies coming have immune modulating effects and the best part is, they are easily available in every Indian Kitchen. Immunity Boosting foods, apart from being delicious they are perfect for maintaining overall health, stimulating and boosting immunity and also protects the body from common disease causing microorganisms.

Here is a list of some homemade kitchen recipes that helps boost immunity,

Golden Turmeric milk

Ingredients – ½ cup of milk

1 tsp of turmeric powder

1 small piece of grated ginger or ½ tsp of ginger powder

1 tsp of honey

1 pinch of black pepper powder

½ tsp of Cinnamon powder

Method: Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan or pot and bring it to boil on a low flame for about 10 minutes till the fragrances come. Then strain the drink through a fine strainer into mugs and with a pinch of cinnamon on the top.

Benefits – Turmeric has medicinal and healing properties as it heals internal and external illness. Golden milk may contribute to a strong skeleton due to the presence of Calcium and Vitamin D. It has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties that helps fight against certain infections.

Tulsi tea

Ingredients – 1 sprig Basil

½ tsp ginger

5 drops Honey

1 dash lemon juice

3 cups of water

¼ tsp of green cardamom

Method –

For making Tulsi tea, a large cup of utensil is taken and put on a high flame after adding three cups of water to it. Now add leaves of Basil, ginger, cardamom powder. Boil all the contents for about 10 minutes. Then turn off the flame and strain the liquid. Serve this tea with a pinch of honey and lemon juice.

Benefits – It is recommended by Ayurvedic doctors to drink Tulsi Tea daily. Tulsi or holy basil contains antioxidants that might prevent the damage caused by free radicals, thus preventing the cell damage. It has medicinal and healing properties that help improve immunity against infection. It has expectorant and anti-tussive properties that prevent cough thereby treating the chronic respiratory problems.   

Giloy Juice

Ingredients – 2-3 Giloy leaves

400ml water

2-3 pinch of long pepper

Method -Take a few Giloy leaves and boil them in 400 ml water till the water is reduced to half. Strain the water. Add to it 2-3 pinches of long pepper (pippali) and mix well. Take it in a dose of 10-15 ml twice a day

Benefits –Giloy is called Amrita which is known to boost immunity as it has various medicinal and healing properties.

Ginger water

Ingredients – 1 ginger or ½ tsp of grated ginger

4cups of water

1tsp Honey

Method

Wash the part of the ginger root you’ll be using. Use a zester to grate 1/2 teaspoon of ginger. Then, Boil 4 cups of water on the stove. Add the ginger once the water is boiling. Remove the ginger water from the heat and let the ginger steep in the water for 10 minutes. Strain the ginger pieces from the water and discard the ginger. Drink ginger water hot or cold.

Benefits – Ginger has the anti-inflammatory property that helps decrease inflammation in sore throat. It helps manage and decrease nausea related problems. It basically helps in maintaining your overall health.

Yoghurt parfait

Ingredient- 2 tbsp dried fruit

2 tbsp flaxseed meal

1tbsp unsalted raw almonds

Plain yoghurt as per the requirement

Ground cinnamon to taste

Method

Add dried fruits, flaxseed meal and nuts into a bowl of low fat yoghurt. Sprinkle some Cinnamon on top for added taste.

Benefits

Yogurt helps improve your immune response due to the presence of Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps maintain the immune system and improve our body’s natural defence against diseases.
