Boost your Immunity with Ayurveda

With the increase in positive cases, people are trying all sorts of precautionary measures. So Ayurveda plays an important role in building a strong immune system. The body’s first line of defense is a healthy immune system as it protects the body from the attack of viruses or bacterial action. With the origin of Ayurveda starting from the vedic culture, it has been the right path for everyone. As per Ayurveda, an efficacious daily routine such as Dincharya or Ritucharya should be maintained that further helps stimulate the immune system and cleanses the body from impurities and contaminants. Prevention from Coronavirus becomes easier when our immunity is strong enough to fight against the virus. So here are some tips to boost your immunity and health with Ayurveda,

  • Head massage with Ayurvedic medicated oils – Head massage is very good for hair, it strengthens the hair and stimulates hair follicles. Keeps the head cool. Massaging around the eyes improves circulation, relaxes pressure in the eyes, thus good for eyes.

  • Body massage with medicated Ayurvedic oil (Abhyangam) – Abhyangam therapy should be done atleast once in a week that helps improve blood circulation and tones up the muscles.

  • Oil pulling daily with cold pressed coconut oil or sesame oil – It helps remove toxins from the whole body and is also considered to be good for gum related problems.

  • 2 drops of Anu thailam or sesame oil in each nostril daily in the morning – very good for eyes, brain, nerves, improves memory, removes toxins from the body, keeps the sinuses clean & prevents sinusitis & other infections.

  • Pouring a few drops of medicated warm oil in ears and massaging the ear (karnapooranam) at least once a week. You can also use sesame oil. The middle ear is responsible for maintaining balance of the body. Oiling helps in reducing vata and maintains balance of the body. It also prevents tinnitus. Leave the oil in the ears for 10 minutes and wipe it off with cotton.

  • Consume sufficient amounts of water on a daily basis that help clean the kidneys & urinary system.

  • Eat healthy food. Shad rasa yukta aahara (6 tastes) – Sweet, salty, sour, bitter, pungent, astringent.

  • Do some exercises regularly like pranayama which improves the functions of the respiratory system and yoga and meditation as a food for body and mind.

  • Get good sleep. Early to bed and early to rise.

  • Foot massage with coconut oil or any Ayurvedic oil at night – It gives good sleep in the night & good for eyes.

  • Applying oil on the nabhi (umbilicus) – It is good for nerves.

  • Kavala and Gandoosha – It keeps the oral cavity clean & prevents gum problems. Prevents sore throat and cough.

  • Chyawanprash is an ayurvedic formulation recommended to be consumed twice a day. Amalaki, one of the strong ingredients in chyawanprash contains vitamin c and antioxidants that boost stamina and enhance overall health.

  • Gargle with Triphala kashayam

  • Drink Tulsi herbal tea daily as it contains antioxidants that might prevent the cell damage caused by free radicals. It also has medicinal and healing properties that help protect from infection.

  • Giloy juice is known to boost immunity as it has various medicinal and healing properties.

  • Turmeric with black pepper capsules twice a day. Turmeric possesses antibacterial, anti-fungal and healing properties. Curcumin, the active principle if Turmeric fights against infection.

  • Taking a cup of herbal tea (Aarogya tea) every 3 to 4 hours or at least twice a day, or filling it in a flask and keeping on sipping it hot throughout the day may work wonders.

  • Amalaki capsules – This ayurvedic formulation is loaded with natural vitamin C that scavenges free radicals and triggers the immune response.
